Is China Socialist Or Capitalist? Vijay Prashad Joins Me To Talk About Neoliberalism, Virtual Stand Up Show Announcements, Pull Back From Social Media
The question everyone has about China is where their allegiance lies; Capitalism or Socialism?
Good day friends!
I want to start this week with a few updates!
Firstly, thank you to those that made it out to the virtual Stand Up show I had this past Thursday. I had a really fun time and I think I’d like to do this somewhat regularly. So I have new Virtual Stand Up Comedy dates listed in this email and on my website. These are primarily going to be set up as workshop nights, so you guys get to help me out with new jokes and stories. So mark your calendars for the new dates. FYI, virtual shows are now on Thursdays instead of Fridays.
Secondly, with the addition of this new virtual comedy night, I’m going to be pulling back from livestreams. I had originally planned on 2 livestreams per month, but I think I’m pulling back to just one. And I think to make this more cost effective, I’ll be streaming on my Rokfin page ONLY starting in March. Right now, paying $25/month for one livestream a month seems like a lot, and I’m watching my budget for the year.
This means pulling back on livestreams is also ensure I can have some balance in my life. Prioritizing my physical & mental health as well improving my relationships with comedy work has been a major challenge in my life and I seem to have some kind of a handle on it at this moment. I get to regularly see someone I’m pursing a romantic relationship with, my friends as well as attend Karate classes and go to the gym. This has meant having strict, but flexible, work hours and adhering to them. It also means decreasing the amount of time I put into research and writing on a daily basis. And that means a reduction in my weekly content as well.
So the livestreams are taking a back seat for now.
Lastly, I wanted to let you guys know about 2 big shows that are coming up. The first one is a live show in Pittsburgh, PA. Its a pretty big line up and you’re not going to want to miss it. On February 17th, I’ll be at the Bryant St. Barbershop opening for Ossia Dwyer with Garrett Titlebaum and Alex Stypula. All of us came up together in the Pittsburgh scene but have landed in different cities. So this is a kind of reunion show! Its $10 and seating is limited, so snag those tickets by venmoing the producer.
The second is the next Fork Full recording on February 24th. I’m going to be taking on the very complicated history of Cuba and the issues surrounding that topic. It should be an interesting show and I do some of you can make it. It’ll performed over Zoom so you can be anywhere in world and attend. Tickets are coming soon, but for now mark your calendars.
Ok, now on to this week’s videos and podcasts. It’s last video in the China series and it addresses where the nation falls in the debate between Socialism & Capitalism. Plus you’re not going to want to miss this conversation with journalist Vijay Prashad.
