Updates & Changes Coming To My Content, Ticketing & Shows
There are few important changes coming to the release of my content, virtual shows and more.
Hey friends,
First of all I want to apologize for my lack of emails the past 2 Sundays. They will be resuming this coming Sunday, but the reason there wasn’t an email is why I’m sending this one. The last 2 weeks have been tough mental health weeks. I’m ok, just tired and getting through this funk. But I’ve been thinking a lot over the past few days about why I fell back into a burnout & depressive episode.
I need to prioritize rest more. In our current society and culture, this is not something that is considered at all. The Socialists in the Labor Movement said “8 hours for work, 8 hours for sleep, 8 hours do what you please”. That last one is for recreation, which is a huge part of improving one’s quality of life. We don’t really talk about that in our hustle culture world.
The last 5-6 weeks, I’ve been prioritizing my physical health by taking Karate classes, working out regularly, stretching and going to the gym. I’ve also prioritized being with my friends and family more. And both these have been major positives in my life, I hit a wall when I didn’t really take time to recharge. I recharge alone. And that is something I need to get back and incorporate into this new schedule I’ve developed.
I’m also going to be more patient with myself. Its only been a few weeks that I started implement a little more structure into my schedule. It’s going to take a little while to get used to that, so I have to be patient with myself.
This brings us to work. I’ve just taken on another part time gig that I’m excited about. The work is not overly stressful and will fit into my schedule really well. BUT I’ve also been look at what’s on my plate and what’s causing me most amount of stress, which gets in the way of my creativity.
So, with that in mind, I’ve decided I’m no longer going to record Fork Full with an audience. That strict of a deadline always sends me into a panic as it gets closer and affects the quality of the shows and the jokes I can write. When I have a little more relaxed time table its a lot easier to write and be creative with the information.
It’s not that I hate the show or anything, but as things begin to open back up, I know everyone is eager to return to some form of normalcy. I am too. Its difficult to make a decision to come a virtual show rather than attend an in-person show at a safe venue to support the local arts scene.
BUT this does that mean that I might be able to push the Q&A idea. My favorite parts of the recordings are the discussion sessions after the and I’d like to carry that forward and make it longer. It’d be curated and I can get guests and such as well. Its still an idea that needs tinkering but I’ll have the details soon.
I’m also going to keep doing the virtual Stand Up nights where I work out new material with you guys. (Snag your tickets for next week’s right now) These shows are really fun and its a great little supplement to live shows.
Lastly, I’m going to cancel all livestreams. Right now I’m paying $25/month a service I seldom use. I’m not particularly connected to the YT world as I was last year. I am going to keep doing ranty videos, but they’ll pre-recorded and focus on one subject.
I had to take inventory of what the best use of my time and energy was and this is where I landed. If I’m going to gain some balance in my life and reduce as much stress as I can, then these are shifts I need to make. I’ve been a pretty intense workaholic all my life and over the last year I’ve started to change that and I can see a lot of improvements in my mental and physical health.
I hope you guys are doing well too. Till Sunday, be good to yourself, be good each other and we’ll see y’all on the road.
